Fama Guanciale (pig cheek) 200g

Guanciale (Italian pronunciation: [ɡwanˈtʃaːle]) is an Italian cured meat product prepared from pork jowl or cheeks.

Italians are serious about their food, so don’t make the mistake of thinking bacon, guanciale and pancetta are one and the same. They are not.

Guanciale pork meat come from the jowl of the pig, and its devotees claim there is no substitute for it.

the fat lends marvelous flavor to any meal, most especially pasta dishes. The flavor is so strong that a little bit of the meat goes a long way in a meal. It’s famously found in spaghetti alla carbonara or bucatini all’amatriciana.


Fama Delicatessen Products was started in South Africa in 1987 by Roberto. Prior to opening the factory in Johannesburg, Roberto spent some years between Italy and Spain, gathering information and experience about traditional methods of curing meats to add to the experience and information which had been passed onto him by his ancestors. These methods, and vast amount of experience were passed on to Nuno and Carla in 2011, the new generation at Fama. Nuno and Carla have been carrying on the passion for “THE SLOW FOOD MOVEMENT” since then and practice these principles on a daily basis.
