Since its humble beginnings in 1991 supplying an exclusive range of quality seafood to the Western Cape’s top restaurants, Wild Peacock has been built on personal relationships. Whether it’s customers or suppliers, Wild Peacock continues to put people first. We believe our company’s success hinges on the care and effort that goes into servicing our customers’ needs as well as our dedication to sourcing quality produce based on sustainability, ethical company structures and long-term engagement with reliable suppliers who have become trusted friends.
Over the past decade, exposure to international food trends has seen the South African food industry experience rapid and exhilarating growth. We have kept pace by supplying the finest ingredients to our customers, many of whom have become celebrated bucket-list destinations for global gourmands. We have also taken our knack for sourcing fine produce, once only glimpsed on Masterchef, to home cooks with the Wild Peacock Food Emporium. Established in 2010 in Stellenbosch, it has since won the Eat Out Produce Award for Outstanding Outlet in South Africa.
Sustainability, consistency and traceability are at the heart of everything we source and distribute here at Wild Peacock Products.
Sustainability to us is to source products that have been audited or are currently in a review process by accredited labels such as ASC, MSC, Friend of the Sea, GLOBALG.A.P. or SASSI. We also look at whether or not the Fish In Fish Out (FIFO) ratios (the efficiency at which the aquaculture converts a weight-equivalent unit of wild fish into a unit of cultured fish) are adhered to when sourcing farmed seafoods.
Sustainable fishing guarantees that there will be populations of ocean and freshwater wildlife in the future.
Consistency through the availability of these seafoods, to ensure you are able to serve these items on your menus, and be specific about the species without having to worry about what you might get from day to day.
Traceability is found through the sustainable farming of most of our seafoods right from the larvae form, to being delivered to your door. It is also tracing whether there were hormones or antibiotics ever fed to the fish.
When ordering seafood from us, you can be assured that you’re making the right choice, because we’ve already made the background checks on your behalf.
As a business we are working towards ensuring that all of our external suppliers are aligned and committed to the same principles and values that we are.
“Businesses must serve as the champions of sustainability.”
Reduce, reuse, recycle – a mission which guides our every move at Wild Peacock. We constantly explore ways to deliver industry-leading food safety and quality throughout our supply chain, while limiting excessive packaging.
The introduction of sturdy, fully recyclable cardboard boxes and Kraft paper bags, as well as the trial of a returnable crate system has cut out 60% of plastic waste. We aim to reduce this even further in the next year and be plastic-free by 2022.
The new CheesePOD by Wild Peacock at Makers Landing is already 100% plastic-free.
In the midst of the Covid-19 global pandemic, the focus on hygiene practices is at the forefront of many industries.
Food safety is everybody’s concern, although the virus is not spread through food, it is important to know that Wild Peacock Products follows strict food handling and hygiene practices.
Over and above our normal food safety practise we are ensuring the below:
Any deliveries of stock into our warehouse are strictly controlled by the below:
Our drivers have been trained on how to deliver goods to customers:
As one of our Key Pillars, the Wild Peacock cmpany culture is as important to us as our customer service. In fact the two cannot be separated. Finding the right people for an organisation, growing them through its ranks and ultimately retaining them for many years is our goal. We look for passionate people who share our ideals and love for food. The company’s success can be attributed in part to the relationships built and nurtured over the years with its customers and suppliers, but the same must also be said for the people within. Wild Peacocks employees are the glue that hold the company together.
At Wild Peacock culture tells us how to respond to an unprecedented service request; it tells us whether to risk new ideas, and whether to surface or hide a problem. Our people make decisions on their own every day, and the culture is our guide.
